GNAW #9!

That’s right, we've been doing this Great Northern Amplifier Worship thing for nine Earth years now! & whilst they're all special, this one is * s p e c i a l * - we've got a wild and varied selection of innovative heaviness lined up for you - improvised clatter & sludge, raging surf-inflected noise, immersive darkwave crawls, capital D doom and expansive metal sounds. What's that, you ask? It's this lot, friend:

BAST
GNAW IX headliner, BAST is a three-piece experimental vortex of blackened intensity and forlorn, mournful doom. Since the release of their debut Spectres in 2014, the band have toured with serious heavyweights Pallbearer and Conan, and graced the stages of festivals such as Roadburn and Bloodstock.

Bismuth
Fresh from playing Roadburn Festival, we are so excited to have these Nottingham-based doom heavyweights grace GNAW. Slow. Lots of amps. Loud. Y e s .

Penance Stare
Fierce & intense, Newcastle-based Penance Stare do not sit comfortably in any genre; they're a perfect GNAW act.

Fret!
Their Facebook bio says it all: "Three ‘Heart Of Darkness’ fuzz-monsters riding a tidal wave up the River Tyne to provide the soundtrack to a Mexican bar-brawl". Molten, intense & condensed twang 'n' rumble 'n' flail.

Waheela
GNAW curators; bunch of guys; weird little team. Waheela are still an improvised noise/rock project driven by a shared affection for shrieking feedback, non-denominational riff worship & unexplained sounds. On first so get yr tea down quick else you'll miss 'em.

Callan
Resident GNAW DJ spinning choice cuts of premium wax & scratchy charity shop oddities; setting the mood & saving you from Van Halen off of an iPod or whatever.

So yeah, that's the deal. Once again, we're returning to the Star and Shadow Cinema, the home of so much of Newcastle's most vital underground culture.
