Two different worlds come together in a story about a most unusual friendship between two unlikely pen pals: Mary, a lonely, eight-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max, a forty-four-year old, severely obese man living in New York.

Programmer’s notes:

Two years ago I knew almost nothing about autism. Then I discovered that I am autistic. Now I know a lot more! I choose these four films because they are eclectic, but feel relevant to my own experiences. I hope they encourage you to be more curious.

I liked Mary and Max because the quirkyness of the two main characters was funny, endearing, unsettling and familiar! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

'Mary and Max' will be preceded by a short (15 mins + 5 mins for questions) presentation on 'The autistic brain'.
