In this special recording, four storytellers describe their experiences of coming to the UK as refugees and asylum seekers.

James, Yade, Yusuf, and Eric explain the challenges they’ve faced and the struggles they’ve overcome. Each story is thought-provoking, moving, and inspiring. They are a privilege to hear.

The narratives were developed during storytelling workshops that took place at the Comfrey Project. Based in Gateshead, the Comfrey provides a safe, welcoming environment where asylum seekers and refugees find support and belonging. The Comfrey offers the chance to work collaboratively on activities from gardening to creative projects and cookery. The programme includes an interview with Mandy Barker, founder of Sail Creative. Mandy ran storytelling workshops at the Comfrey during the first lockdown. The workshops were part of Sail’s mission to engage in creative projects that have ethical purposes and community at their heart.
