On The Eve Of Burns Night - An Evening Of Folk Film And Song From The Root Of The Heart.

A marking of Burns Night starting at 7:30pm  with screening of the wonderful Ealing Comedy:  Whisky Galore (Mackendrick UK 1948 U) staring Joan Greenwood and James Robertson Justice. Passing on to a night of song, folk and personal from some of the best acoustic performers onTyneside:  Cath and Phil Tyler. Steve Malley, Paul Handyside. The music will be accompanied with drams and a big pot of neep soup from Phil's farm.

Cath and Phil Tyler play Anglo-American folk music using guitar banjo voice and fiddle. Coming together musically through a shared love of traditional narrative song. Full voiced sacred harp singing and sparse mountain banjo. Taking a more minimal approach to their material than some, their music has been described as being ' a highly concentrated and intimate musical experience that penetrates to the very rawest essence of folk tradition.

 Steve Malley is the guitarist and singer in both The Unit Ama and The Horse Loom. He has enlisted a group of eminently qualified musicians to collaborate with him on music from Northumberland and the North East.  This line up will include Lucy Farrel, Seth Bennet, Cath and Phil Tyler and Aby Vulliamy.Together they will perform a collection of songs from the region's rich musical tradition.

Paul Handyside was singer songwriter with eighties indie darlings Hurrah! who had releases on Kitchenware and Arista Records. Now with the second albumWayward son ( released 27 jan 2014) his songwriting blends elements of americana, pop and traditional folk.
