Steve Symons (Manchester, UK) and Matt Gray (Sheffield, UK) - muio workshop with Steve Symons: 1pm - 2.30 pm. - Presentations by Matt Gray & Steve Symons: 3 - 5 pm. Artist Steve Symons and Matt Gray present the work they have developed as part of the Polytechnics Grow Your Own Media Lab residencies. Grow Your Own Media Lab is a project to develop creative, open access IT centres across the UK, twinning the latest free software with locally recycled computers. Original workshops were held in collaboration with the AV06 Festival in March 06 with Steve and Matt in Washington, Sunderland & Throckley, Newcastle.


Matt Gray will be presenting the Linac, a demo version of a live / improvisation oriented sequencer / loop sampler built for SuperCollider, the open source real time audio programming software. Linac is customisable with additional modules, and has support for various input devices. It will run on Linux, OS X and is in development for Windows.

muio workshop:
Steve Symons will also be running a workshop on how to build a mini Muio device and run it in Linux. The Muio device is an "expandable USB system for sensing and controlling the real world made from readily available technology". The device can (not obligatory) be bought at the end of the workshop at cost price £17.
