A three day event celebrating USSR culture will take place on Friday July 25 from 7:30pm at the Star and Shadow Cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne. Visitors will not only be able to feast on a range of typical Russian food, including some of the country’s delicacies, a Soviet dance troupe will provide entertainment while others can view an exhibition of Soviet old-timers: a real life Moskvich 408, a car made in USSR in 1966 that stars in the film 'Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution', and the legendary ‘Ushastik’ – big eared Zaporojets ZAZ 968, a car made in USSR in 1971.

People from the North East can gain an insight into Eastern Europe and ex-USSR at an event being hosted by Star and Shadow with help from a non-profit organization MADE IN USSR.

And, on Saturday evening, there will be a film to get you into the revolutionary spirit: 'Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution', starring Catherine Tate (directed by Bille Eltringham, 2007. Cert: 12A).  Brittany Ashworth (Alex Ratcliffe) and Nigel Betts (Uncle Philip) will join us for a questions and answers session after the film’s screening. On Sunday afternoon a discussion group and life forum will be arranged.

MADE IN USSR is a non-profit organization that united Russian speaking people who live in the North East of England (mainly from the ex-USSR) and others who are interested in the Russian culture, history and traditions of the former Iron Curtain.

Alex Mironov, the committee member of MADE IN USSR, believes that it is a great interest in the region to the ‘Soviet’ period.  He commented: “We are delighted stage this event at the Star and Shadow.  There’s very strong evidence that people from the North East can benefit from opening their minds to seeing Russia and Eastern Europe as very viable sources of culture and friendship.”
