Masked Mexican wrestlers are set to invade Newcastle’s Star and Shadow Cinema on Friday 9 July from 7.30pm in an evening featuring live wrestlers, bands and films as part of ¡VAMOS! Festival 2010, the North East’s celebration of Latin and Lusophone (portuguese speaking) cultures.

LIVE MEXICAN WRESTLING IN THE BIG RING ... BANDS ... FILMS ... DJ'S

Lucha Libre (Mexican Wrestling by masked wrestlers) is a cultural institution in working class Mexico. For one night only, Byker too will be home to some LIVE MEXICAN WRESTLERS bringing their theatrical performances to a specially constructed ring at the Star and Shadow Cinema.

Going by names such as Demon and Senor Portugale, it is rumoured that some of the men behind the masks are authentic Mexicans.

As well as the live theatrical fisticuffs there's live music from surf rock heroes SENOR BEATNIK and the last ever gig by the legendary COYOTEMEN.

Not forgetting the UK premiere of highly rated Mexican Wrestling animation feature LOS CAMPEONES DE LA LUCHA LIBRA.

LOS CAMPEONES DE LA LUCHA LIBRA (Mexico, 2008, 76 mins Director: Eddie Mort)

A mysterious stranger leaves his Mexican village to seek help from an impending attack by an equally mysterious horde. He finds a gifted young Mexican wrestler - or luchador - Dragon Rojo JR, who sees a chance to live up to the legacy of his famous father. Inspired by the golden age of Lucha Libre, he gathers a team of his own but as they work together, a surprise lies in store - the village they have been asked to defend is not exactly what it seems…
