PRMNT VIBES, ROSE QUARTZ & TEMPO TEMPO present a late Friday night at Star & Shadow with three bands + ROAD TO RIMINI DJs and DJ IMPOSTER & THA INVISIBLE CHOIR BOY + others "on the decks" until very late.
Out of all the San Francisco three-piece pop revavilists repping fuzzy riffs and big vocal harmonies GRASS WIDOW (http://www.myspace.com/grasswidowmusic) have gotta be one of the catchiest. Throwing back to post-punk greats lik...e Black Tamborine, Raincoats, Kleenex and Bratmobile and their scruffy but saccharine cool, all shredded cardigans and way more broken guitars than contemporaries like VIVIAN GIRLS, DUM DUM GIRLS or BEST COAST. Theirs' is a distorterd and rollicking kind of fun, finding a perfect home on labels like Captured Tracks and Kill Rock Stars.
TRASH KIT (http://www.myspace.com/trashkit) are born throughly from London city and probably encapsulate best the vision of label/promoter Upset the Rhythm and their DIY clatter. This gang of facepainted flag-bearers (one of whom used to play in Electrelane) have a wild feel for melody and a heartfelt kick inside each song. Mixing chaos, considered songcraft and overlapping harmonies in equal measure, the female trio sound as joyful as they are focussed.
BOY'S BEDROOM are a husband and wife duo from Newcastle and Glasgow (Micheal from LES COX (sportifs) and Lorna from Glasgow's GOLDEN GRRRLS) who play scrunched up riffs and fuzzed out grooves in a pop/hair metal/glam rock fashion using cheap guitars and keyboards played through shitty practice amps. Hot!
We'll also have Road to Rimini DJs playing their lighter and more fun-oriented selection of tunes as well as DJ Imposter & Tha Invisible Choir Boy playing a selection of vintage hip-hop and party tunes till very late at night.
Tickets are £6 or £5 advance from here:
