LAETITIA SADIER

As vital to European culture as The Velvet Underground were to the USA, Stereolab ploughed a twenty year course cruising the Krautrock underground whilst successfully surfing the Britpop overground with a series of perfectly misplaced melodica. Following their self-imposed hiatus in 2009, French born lead Laetitia Sadier has positioned herself as the chanteuse of the Avant-garde, initially with solo project/band Monade, followed by two albums of various musical sparks;2010's 'The Trip', "a very personal homage to life’s journey and a grieving process for the separations that are an unavoidable part of life” and 2012's 'Silencio', "exploring the individual connection to a deeper self-placed in a broader environment, in a similarly fresh kind of way". Whilst less experimental than her previous musical charges, both albums were, in some respects, reminiscent of Stereolab's craft of bringing uncommercial and commercial threads together; in others, an illustration of an artist liberated from the creative tensions of this successful union. Despite both albums' cornucopia of collaborations with Americans Rebecca Gates, Richard Swift and April March, French musicians Julien Gasc and Emmanuel Mario (Monade) and ex-partner and Stereolab technician, Tim Gane, recent live shows have featured Laetitia performing with a very select number. For this short run of small venues north of the border, Laetitia shall be performing a solo set, as suitably intimate as the surroundings of the Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle welcome.

PEA SEA

Pea Sea is the solo musical project of Christopher Rollen, the first angle of the Les Cox triangle, which happened in 1997 as a reaction to the frustrations of living in a small town where nothing happens. Now living in Berlin, a big town where everything happens, ironically things are finally happening back home where debut album 'The Debatable Land' on Sea Records, a nostalgic journey through record collections, old photo albums, love letters and text messages, has become a firm favourite of both Field Music and Marc Riley alike.

WILT WAGNER

Wilt Wagner is the semi-improvised live project of Micheal J Patterson, the third angle of the Les Cox triangle, who uses the aid of tapes, voice, drum machines and the humble home keyboard to create a Smörgåsbord of washy dancefloor schlop and cloaked keyboard quests.
