'Community' was launched in Manchester in 2006 by DJ / Artist / Producer,
Irfan Rainy. As the name suggests, the main premis of the night was to bring
music loving, dancing hard people together of different races, genders,
backgrounds, sexual orientation and ages under one roof to enjoy good quality
music without discrimination or prejudice. Irfan was running parties in
Manchester and London since the mid 80s and decided to launch Community in
response to the generic club nights / fads / cliches on offer and to reflect
changes in the makeup of his city. Although initially the night had it's ups and
downs, it's generally gone from strength to strength and has been taken to
cities such as London and Leeds. The music policy is essentially 'House' with
influences from chicago, jazz, latin, afro, soul, broken beat and disco (you
won't find any David Guetta!!). The night has been supported by renowned DJs in
the underground house music scene such as Phil Asher, Osunlade, Joe Clausell,
Black Coffeee and more recently Timmy Regisford from the legendary club
'Shelter' in NYC.
Given that the makeup up of most our large towns and cities is changing on
a regular basis, yet the nightlife remains stagnant, Community offers an
alternative to people who are looking for a good night in an ego free
unpretentious environment… 10pm to 4am £6 entry.
