A Glimpse of Paradise presents

THE SPACE LADY

(Nightschool Records / USA)

'The Space Lady is aptly named. Not only does her outsider-pop sound otherworldly, but this long-standing cult American singer enjoys a lifelong relationship with aliens. Born shortly after her parents left Roswell, New Mexico, following the legendary 1947 flying saucer crash, The Space Lady encountered a UFO herself, in her 20s, while living in a cave on the Californian Mount Shasta. “From then on, we were convinced we were being watched, if not guided and protected, by aliens,” she says.

This is no ordinary story – nor music. After decades of busking on street corners in Boston and San Francisco, The Space Lady’s homemade Greatest Hits is finally able to reach a wider audience on this, her first ever tour (!)

The Space Lady’s ethereal vocals are processed – alongside her Casiotone keyboard – through phaser and echo boxes, as she deconstructs pop hits of the day, feeding out familiar hooks and melodies through haunting yet captivating alien filters. Ghost Riders In The Sky, Born To Be Wild and Ballroom Blitz nestle alongside more curious and leftfield selections, such as The Electric Prunes’ I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) and Peter Schilling’s Major Tom.

The Space Lady exists somewhere between Joe Meek & Daniel Johnston, somewhere between heaven & earth, & somewhere between bizarre and beautiful'
