Iara Lee, a Brazilian of Korean descent, is an activist, filmmaker, and founder of the Cultures of Resistance Network, an organization that promotes global solidarity, supports peace with justice projects and brings together artists and changemakers from around the world.

The season includes Iara's most recent projects: The Suffering Grasses: When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers, which explores the Syrian conflict through the humanity of the civilians who have been killed, abused, and displaced to the squalor of refugee camps; and a short film The Kalasha and the Crescent on the Kalash indigenous resistance movement in northern Pakistan, which chronicles how the Kalashas are responding to the challenges facing their culture. We will also show a number of other films from Cultures of Resistance highlighting the response of indigenous peoples to oppression.
