The programme's and exhibition's OPENING NIGHT (free entrance) is on 6th September at 6pm, followed by the first night of the film season AFROFUTURISM (ticketed, see details below).

UNSUNG celebrates the lives and achievements of some of the doers and makers who have changed or are changing the world, and who should be household names by now but have not been given the recognition they deserve. These inspiring role models show the inherent power and richness of the Afrikan continent and its people.

This programme also particularly aims to involve and be accessible to people of Afrikan heritage living in the North East.

The programme includes a number of linked events and opportunities taking place during this time at the venue, many of which are also free to access.

Sound-Art Installation "Patchwork" by Oz Peters

UNSUNG commissioned local Senegalese-born artist and musician Oz Peters to produce an interactive sound installation in part of the Star and Shadow building. With sounds from the Afrikan continent and its diaspora, speeches of liberation leaders, and new compositions by Oz which you can mix together, this engaging and atmospheric piece allows to create a unique live musical soundscape throughout the space.

Oz will hold an artist talk about his piece on Thursday 13th September, starting from 18.00. The talk is free and will be followed by 2nd film night ART & POLITICS (ticketed):
