In Friday’s Midnight Movie, Yuki, the avenging heroine of Lady Snowblood, returns. To escape the gallows she must accept a mission to kill the dangerous anarchist Tokunaga Ransui. Will she succeed? Perhaps you can guess the rest.

In Lady Snowblood 2: Love Song Of Vengeance (Shurayukihime: Urami Renga)  director Toshiya Fujita creates a visually stunning follow up to the original gorefest. It won't surprise you to know that the Lady Snowblood films were the inspiration for Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies.

By 1900 there emerged a growing concern among scholars and intellectuals regarding the momentum with which Japan was throwing itself toward the future and embracing the West. Where such ideological dissent gained popularity and led to public uprisings the governments efforts would be concentrated on arresting and eliminating any troublemakers. It is within this witch hunt for ideological anarchists that Kashima Yuki finds herself in this politically driven sequel.

The hired assassin whose reputation now precedes her is quickly tried and sentenced to death by hanging for her crimes. On the way to the gallows, however, she is suddenly whisked away by the mysterious white-gloved villain Kikui Seishiro, head of the Secret Police. Once inside his remote and opulent headquarters, he propositions Yuki to once again take up her sword and secretly assassinate an enemy of the State, the political anarchist Tokunaga Ransui. Ransui is in possession of a critical document which Kikui seems quite obsessed with, deeming it highly dangerous to the stability of the government. If Yuki can obtain and deliver the document to Kikui, he will grant her immunity from her charges.

Infiltrating Ransui's home posing as a servant girl she sets about finding the document, but the more she observes Ransui, the more she questions the path Kikui has put her on. When Ransui confides in Yuki knowing full well who she is, asking her to deliver the document to his brother Shusuke, Lady Snowblood, the pure, resolute and demonically formidable heroine of samurai blood is forced to decide her allegiance...
