An elegant adaptation of Isak Dinesen’s short story which is a feast for the heart, the senses and the spirit.

Set in 19th century Denmark in an isolated village, where two adult sisters live with their father. A French woman refugee, Babette, arrives at their door, begs them to take her in. In this deceptively simple film we are shown the attitudes and peculiarities of Babette, her employers, and the residents of the village as they all prepare for Babette’s Feast.

No culinary experience could be as both amusing and perceptive as the meal served in this film: this isn’t just a dinner, it’s a revelation...
