Special night of Live music + Midnight Film!

8.30PM: LIVE MUSIC: LES BOF! + SENOR BEATNIK + DJ

LES BOF!

Les premiers garage-rockers en Francais are on their way across the channel. Singer Laurent was thrown out of Marseilles by the town council for crimes against music, and ended up in Edinburgh.

The larrikin neighbourhoods of the town were scoured for tearaway garage rockers, and thus Les BOF! were formed. The result? The not very enviable situation of being the premier garage rockers en Francais in an Anglo land.

Les Bof! translates as 'don’t care!' or 'not interested!' but don;t think for a minute they're uninteresting. It's a punk rock attitude to rejection by the established order - a situation, we are sure, you all know too well and with which you can only sympathize.

You can check them out on their website here, or on youtube here

SENOR BEATNIK

Cooler than a Bohemian cafe on the Left Bank of the Wear, and riskier than hanging ten in a foamy tube off Roker, Senor Beatnik are the most enjoyable and downright "fun" band to emerge in the North East this year.

Hidden behind berets, shades and striped Breton shirts, Freddie Felix, Goulash and Hector Troy are inspired by Las Vegas Grind and Pebbles record collections, and are making music they describe at "garage surf punk-rock".

Listen to their hip-grinding mono-mayhem on myspace here.

DJ MICHAEL CLUNKIE

Accompanied by our favourite in-house DJ... Sounds written or influenced by Jagger and the Stones!

You can check him out on myspace here.

12AM MIDNIGHT: FILM: PERFORMANCE (1970, Dir. Nic Roeg, starring Mick Jagger and James Fox)

Nic Roeg’s first feature, Performance, was completed in 1968 but didn't open until two years later.

Despite starring roles from Mick Jagger and James Fox, Warner Bros baulked when faced with explicit sex, brutal violence and open drug-use. Now recognised for its innovative film techniques and creative daring, it’s the perfect midnight movie.

THE PLOT

Chas, a violent and psychotic East London gangster needs a place to lie low after a hit that should never have been carried out. He finds the perfect cover in the form of guest house run by the mysterious Mr. Turner, a one-time rock superstar, who is looking for the right spark to rekindle his faded talent.
