Photofit is a two-part event that shifts subjectively between live performance and film documentary. In Photofit artist Mem Morrison pieces together traces of his past through present day encounters, using film, text and several photographs, tracking down and confronting his school bullies and drawing on a lifetime of remembered Turkish Cypriot family weddings.

This lecture-style event sees Mem Morrison present his documentary films in a cinema for the first time. Photofit draws on elements of Ringside, Mem's most recent performance, that looks at Mem's cultural heritage and from behind the big hair and a seven-tier wedding cake a flicker of hope peers; an intimate attempt to belong to a culture, to a family and to someone. It also takes in Undo, his 2004 performance that was twenty years in the making but saw Mem face his demons and return to South East London to track down and confront the bullies who tormented him throughout his youth, piecing together traces of his past through present day encounters as he attempted to unravel the complex psychology of oppressor and oppressed.

Mem Morrison’s work expands on memory and personal history to reflect on a wider universal human experience, often revealing previously untold truths. Mem is an artist who has been making his own, highly personal, work since 1995. He is interested in exploring performance as a healing process and as a way of finding a voice. With a strong emphasis on design and colour, the work often draws upon personal history and environment to evoke the complexities of acknowledging and accepting cultural differences.

Mem Morrison is an Artsadmin supported artist.
