'The Hills are alive with the sound of music, with songs they have sung for a thousand years'. Come and see this ever-favourite Hollywood musical.  Every song is a classic that you will want to belt out, or whistle, or hum, or mime, while a story of love, fun and song unfolds on screen.

Set in 1930s Austria on the brink of social change, The Sound of Music is the story of love, decisions, and song! Maria makes a terrible nun, so terrible that even the Mother Superior wants rid of her. Maria is sent to the Von Trapp family home to act as governess to the seven mischevious Von Trapp children. Here she warms the heart of not only the children but also the iron hearted Captain Georg Von Trapp.

You’ll be surprised at how many of these songs you know by heart, but to help you along (if you want to join in) we will provide you with a hymn sheet!

To get you prepared, here are the lyrics to one of the most famous musical songs ever (imagine the camera panning across the lush green hills of Austria):

"The hills are alive with the sound of music // With songs they have sung for a thousand years // The hills fill my heart with the sound of music
// My heart wants to sing every song it hears

"My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
that rise from the lake to the trees
// My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies
from a church on a breeze // To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over
stones on its way
// To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray

"I go to the hills when my heart is lonely
// I know I will hear what I've heard before
// My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
// And I'll sing once more"
