Written by Korine in collaboration with his brother Avi, MISTER LONELY follows a young American (Diego Luna) living in Paris and working as a Michael Jackson lookalike. He meets Marilyn Monroe (Samantha Morton), who invites him to her commune in Scotland, where she lives with Charlie Chaplin and her daughter, Shirley Temple. Als...o featuring a parallel story starring Werner Herzog (who also called Korine "the saviour of American cinema") and nuns falling from planes (?) soundtracked by Spacemen 3 and Sun City Girls.

If you expect the norm here, then expect disappointment. Expect something different and find a bold little film that is thought-provoking, amusing and, eventually, very eloquent. Fans of early Korine like GUMMO for instance will be pleasantly surprised by the sincerity and weird poignancy that breaks through all the meta and perhaps uncharacteristically clear visual style.
