Some Facts about NIGHT OF THE HUNTER:

Director Charles Laughton was so disappointed by the poor reception that his film received that he vowed never to make another film, and he didn’t.

At the audition phase, Laughton described the preacher as a ‘diabolical sh*t’, to which Mitchum replied, ‘present’!

Mitchum hinted that this was his favourite movie in which he acted and that Laughton was his favourite director.

Gary Cooper turned down the role of the preacher, fearing that it would damage his career.

Roger Ebert wrote, "It is one of the most frightening of movies, with one of the most unforgettable of villains, and on both of those scores it holds up ... well after four decades."
