   Another film built round personal identity.  Chantal Akerman explores New York as a mythological city.    Whilst in New York she receives a series of letters from her mother begging her to return to Europe.  Her New York, a demonic monstrous animal set in cinematic counterpoint to emotional ties that want to define her.
