In his follow- up to the Midnight Movie marvel that was El Topo, Jodorowsky plays the Alchemist. Accompanied by his beautiful silent assistant, he gathers together a group of eight people from different walks of life who each personify the worst aspects of their profession and archetype.The Alchemist divests his recruits of their worldly material baggage and subjects them to the method and mystical rites.They must burn their money and leave their old life behind before they can accompany the Alchemist to Lotus Island to ascend the Holy Mountain and learn the secret of immortality from the immortal masters. Who and what are these masters and what does the Alchemist director Jodorowsky reveal when he finally zooms back the camera? To paraphrase the Jodmeister himself - If you are great, this is a great movie. If you are limited, you may wonder what the hell is going on!
