Heleno de Freitas was a Brazilian football legend whose career at Botafogo shone briefly, but brightly, in the 1940s. With a glamorous life in Rio, Heleno was confident he would become the best Brazilian footballer ever. But war, illness and misfortune, led to his dramatic decline.
Living in isolation in a sanatorium, he witnessed Brazil winning the 1958 World Cup with a new star named Pelé. Heleno died the following year. Brazilian star Rodrigo Santoro (Che, Carandiru, Love Actually) plays Heleno in this biography.
