The film is partly historical and partly fictional, and it created great controversy on its release.
REVIEWS
"This is not the place to debate the Vatican's role, but Costa-Gavras offers a most persuasive study of its shortcomings." - BBC
"The film persuasively shows the Vatican to be coldly arrogant and haughtily implacable, set on a course of pure pusillanimity. Costa-Gavras brings to his movie seriousness and high-mindedness, and elicits performances of intelligence and distinction from his cast." - THE GUARDIAN
+ INTRODUCTION
The film will be introduced by Dr Daniel Laqua, lecturer in History at Northumbria University.
