The Devil's Miner follows two brothers as they work in the Bolivian silver mines of Cerro Rico, in which over eight million workers have perished. Through their eyes we encounter the world of devout Catholic miners who sever their ties with God upon entering the mountain. It is an ancient belief that the mines are the exclusive province of El Tío, the devil, who is both protector and destroyer. Each mine has its own statue of the horned demon who guards the mine’s riches, and is the only route out of poverty. Regional Premiere. 2005.
