The Killing of Sister George
Dir. Robert Aldrich, 135 mins. USA. (1968), Cert 18
Outstanding performances from Beryl Reid and Susannah York mark this controversial classic as a standout film in the cinematic history of lesbian representations. Reid and York’s dysfunctional relationship is in decline as Reid’s daytime serial character, Sister George, is being killed off by a predatory lesbian BBC executive (Coral Browne).
This series of screenings is for women only, and some screenings will be accompanied by discussions.
