The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) - written by Charles B. Griffith, directed by Roger Corman, starring Jonathon Haze, Mel Welles, Dick Miller, Jack Nicholson
Infamously shot in two days (a world record) on a standing set, after three days rehersal, it is still one of Cormans best loved and most idiosyncratic pictures. Featuring a catalogue of Corman regulars many delivering their best work, particularly Jonathon Haze as anti-hero florist Seymour Krelboin, Mel Welles is great as immigrant shop owner Gravis Mushnik, Dick Miller passed on the lead but guests brilliantly as a customer who eats the plants, though the real star turn goes to a psychotically edgy Jack Nicholson as the masochistic undertaker Wilbur Force. Funny and ridiculous in equal measure it is the very definition of a cult classic, a true home video pioneer.
