The Intruder (1962) - produced by Gene Corman, directed by Roger Corman, starring William Shatner
The only film which lost him money is also one of Corman's very best. Tackling topical social issues, this drama was years ahead of its time, portraying a white supremacist heading south to stir up racial conflict. Featuring a youthful William Shatner in his first ever leading role and probably his best ever screen performance. Shot on location using local non-actors in the crowd scenes, many displaying all too genuine enthusiasm for the inflammatory rhetoric, throughout the cast and crew suffered abuse and attack at the hands of real lynch-mobs and corrupt small town officials.
