The Social Centres Network is an affiliation of grassroots, autonomous spaces around the UK and Ireland who are committed to bottom-up culture and activist citizenship.
Star and Shadow Cinema is hosting this year's meetup, focused around informal facilitated conversations, workshops, screenings, eating together and skill sharing. The event is free, and open to all but there is a cost for food.
Saturday will start with breakfast and registration and a session to co-create an agenda. We have then allotted time for 5 more sessions (approx 1.5hrs each) over the weekend. If there are not enough topics brought by participants, we have some conversations and workshops we would be interested to propose, particularly:
- A conversation about how S&S was built, how it runs, how we pulled off this scale of project as a DIY space and whwhere the pitfalls lie.
- A conversation about how to resolve conflict in non-hierarchical spaces, using our mediation policy, reworked from Kebele's one.
- A conversation about where film/cinema fits into the social centres project.
Local transport, the Wonderful Tyneside Metro, the Star and Shadow is midway between three metro stations, and there is a bus-stop outside with buses every 10 minutes from the centre of the city. Limited parking reserved for campervans or disabled access. Unlimited Bike Racks.
