A night looking at the experimental animations of the artist Robert Breer. His first films were derived from the compositions of his abstract paintings in the early 50s and he continued to animate for the next 50 years. A real treat to watch, we are showing a selection of his stop frame animations on 16mm and a documentary with him at work by fellow experimental film maker Pip Chodorov.

We saw a programme of Breer's films at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2007 and were so blown away by it that we knew we had to bring it to Newcastle. An absolute treat for your eyeballs.

"We look at Breer's work and we begin to smile - lightly, inside, a happy sort of smile, a happy feeling like when you see anything beautiful and perfect."
