In recent years the statement ‘NASA LIE THE EARTH IS FLAT NO CURVE’ has been repeatedly scrawled across the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The graffiti is perhaps as throwaway as it is temporary. But perhaps not. Perhaps it has something to say about how divided we have become, especially in our thinking.

NASA LIE THE EARTH IS FLAT NO CURVE is a 30 minute, moving-image collage, made entirely from footage widely available from online video-media platforms. It is a playful and poetic invitation to reflect upon the broad social and political predicaments we currently inhabit, via the steadily growing culture of ‘Flat Earth’ theory.

Mission to Mars

Luboš Zvičina, 2019, Czech Republic, 35 mins

Preceding the NASA LIE screening there will be a, never before seen in the UK, screening of Mission to Mars by Czech artist Luboš Zvičina (b.1936). Launching a rocket ship into space from his local town square, Zvičina blends romanticism with a rational obsessiveness in an unlikely search for both real and imaginary landscapes.

Includes original soundtrack recorded by the artist’s granddaughter, Monica Dvorak-Platten.
