Reel People brings you the stories of non-male, North East-based filmmakers. Learn how they fell in love with film, cultivated their craft and broke the field’s boundaries. Deepen your knowledge, probe your expectations and most importantly, be inspired. 

And who better to kick off the series than award-winning producer Maria Caruana Galizia? After working at Scottish Television and freelance on shows including Game of Thrones, Maria founded her production company, Candle & Bell, and has since produced award-winning short film of many genres.

Reel People is presented by Susie Davies, Newcastle University fine art student and aspiring documentary filmmaker. The show is a Micro-Project commissioned by Star and Shadow Cinema and funded by Arts Council England.

So, the message? Whoever you are: believe in yourself, let no one discourage you… and make film!
