Canny Little Library presents: Stay home stay queer - Creative writing and zine making workshop.
Come and hang out with us! Get crafty and make a mini-zine with Melody.
Stay home stay queer is a creative arts project aimed at isolated LGBTQIA+ people (14+) in lockdown, ran by cabaret maker and binary breaker Melody Sproates.
The workshop will offer you a chance to be creative, try something you might not usually do and just have a space to be comfy and be yourself.
All you will need is some paper, pens, scissors and optional magazines, colouring pens and a pritt stick.
Tech requirements: Access to internet to watch a Youtube link and access to join a Zoom meeting if you'd like to join the Q and A afterwards. If you're aged 14- 18 you'll need permission from a responsible adult to use a Zoom account.
This event is free and will be split into two parts:
Part 1: Zine making workshop / Time: 5pm - 6pm / Place: YouTube
Link: The workshop will be streamed (pre-recorded) via YouTube. We will send you a link via Eventbrite on the day of the event. As the video is pre-recorded, you can either complete the workshop along the way or go back to it at a later date.
Comfort break for 15 minutes: 6pm - 6:15pm
Part 2: Live Q&A + chat / Time: 6:15pm - 6:45pm / Place: Zoom
Link: The live Q&A is optional and will be a safe space for us all to relax, chat zines, show what we made or just be in an online space with other queer people. There is no pressure to have camera/audio on during the Q&A.
A little more info about the workshop:
Whilst in lockdown, it's a common experience for us folk to feel isolated and unable to express ourselves in ways we normally would. During the workshop, we'll talk about the importance of continuing to celebrate our identities indoors or in smaller ways, and explore this through creative writing, prompts and drawing activities. We'll also look at inspirational queer quotes and lockdown experiences. This workshop encourages you to include your generated material in a zine; however, there is zero pressure to end up with a final product or to share it.
