Tove is known in many an iconic photograph for her defiant and beaming smile whilst adorned in flower crowns. Flowers also feature largely in the Moomin stories too, from the roses that Moominmamma grows in her garden to Tulippa, the little girl who lives inside a tulip from The Moomins and the Great Flood. Growing up in Finland, surrounded by nature, it’s no wonder that flora and fauna had a big influence on Tove’s artwork and writing from the Moomins and her adult literature such as the wondrous The Summer book to the importance of nature in her own life (featured largely in the super 8 film Haru, Island of Solitary to be screened later at 7.30pm Sunday sept 19th at Star and Shadow Cinema). https://www.starandshadow.org.uk/programme/event/the-intimate-home-movies-of-the-creator-of-the-moomins,5593/
