Presented by Newcastle University's SciScreen to mark Deaf Awareness Week

FREE advance tickets - Please note earlier than usual start time!

This film is the first in a series of films throughout the year presented at S&S by Newcastle University's SciScreen - a FREE year round film festival exploring science and health in film with panel discussion afterwards.

Punk-metal drummer Reuben's life is turned upside down when he begins to lose his hearing and he must confront a future filled with silence.

Utilizing startling, innovative sound design techniques, director Darius Marder takes audiences inside Ruben's experience to vividly recreate his journey into a rarely examined world.

The film won 2 Oscars (best Sound and Best Film Editing) and was nominated for several more, including Best Actor for another passionate performance from Riz Ahmed.

The film will start at 6pm, with subtitles and will be followed by a panel discussion with researchers and experts from Newcastle University on the subject hi-lighted by the film. The discussion will be supported by a BSL interpreter.
