Tonight, 22nd May we will explore the areas of the brain responsible for our movements and memories, essential characteristics of being human. Viviane will tell us how different areas of the brain communicate to create the movements we make, and what communication is lost when we can't move as we used to - ouch! Meanwhile, Dave will discuss changes in the brain that are responsible for Alzheimer's and related dementias. Join us to find out how these brain changes can be modelled and re-configured in our labs, in hope of discovering life-changing treatments.
On the 23rd May, the Pint of Science Team will continue their series on the beautiful mystery that is the mind.
The evening will present talks from Dr Rhys Thomas and Dr Faye McLeod. Rhys is a Clinical Senior Lecturer and an Honorary Consultant in Epilepsy at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, who will talk about the use of epilepsy drugs in pregnancy. Faye is a fellow of Epilepsy Research UK, who researches the regulation of synaptic connectivity in health and disease and will discuss the genetic makeup of families that might cause epilepsy within the developing brain.

On 24th May Pint of Science asks: what happens inside our brain when we wake up, fall asleep, or have that all important Eureka moment? Andrew will help us to understand more about semi-stable states within the brain. However, while we can look at the brain for answers, there's also things we can physically do to solve some of psychology's most complicated questions. Can writing about our positive experiences really improve our emotional well-being? See for yourself as we practice some expressive writing with Michael. Need inspiration? Perhaps you could write about the fantastic night you've had at Pint of Science!
