Starring: Lucy Liu, Jeremy Northam

Bored with his humdrum existence, a bookish office worker decides to spice up his life by applying for a role in corporate espionage for a large corporation.

It all starts innocently enough with assignments to attend and record conferences. But aided (or manipulated) by a mysterious femme fatale (Lucy Liu), he quickly finds himself to be an expendable pawn ensnared in a complex web of deception in a no-holds-barred secret war between ruthless corporations.

Who can he trust? What is real? Will he survive?

Cypher is quiet and mellow, but fun and fascinating with fast paced edge of the seat action and byzantine plot twists (pay close attention). It invites comparison with the novels of Philip K. Dick, Dean Koontz, Robert Silverberg and William Gibson; and movies like Bladerunner, Brazil, Dark City, eXistenZ and the Manchurian Candidate.

Reviews

The Guardian “A smart sci-fi thriller, punching considerably above its weight”

BBC reviews: “the same claustrophobia and tension which made Cube such a nerve-shredding experience are maintained in a complex story of industrial espionage that also tackles issues of identity, perception, and control.”
