Newly-signed to Gravity Records (EMI imprint), the part-time chef, full-time singer-songwriter touches on themes of adolescence, family, relationships and the trappings of being the “odd one out” in a small northern town within his music, and with an accomplished live show and debut EP on the way this autumn, ERNIE is sure to be firmly in the spotlight this autumn.
Detailing his second ever single release, the musician revealed: “‘Hold Yr Horses’ is about being 16/17 and getting into drunken scrapes with other kids in my small town. That period of time was kind of a blur for me but I remember there was always lots of friction between different friendship groups in the local pubs that would sometimes end in brawls or a chase or something. The lyrics are a bit tongue in cheek, I’m kind of poking fun at some of the weird toxic masculinity that was present in the town at the time, but ultimately the song is about a tense and unnerving time of my life.”
Produced by Josh Ingledew alongside Thom Lewis (Sam Fender), and mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Catherine Marks (Foals, The Killers, Wolf Alice), ERNIE’s ‘Hold Yr Horses’ is out now via Gravity Records and available on all digital platforms.
