Gallivant (1996) - Andrew Kotting. UK. Cert 15.

"When it comes to immersive cinema, few filmmakers can hold a candle to British maverick Andrew Kotting" - Mark Kermode.

"One of the best 10 films ever made" - Stewart Lee. Newly restored by the BFI in 2K. A rare screening, file under "not to be missed".

A road movie truly like no other, Gallivant chronicles Andrew Kötting’s humourous and poignant journey around the UK’s coastline, with his eccentric ‘Big Granny’ Gladys and young daughter Eden, who has Joubert Syndrome and communicates through sign-language.

The route, which starts at Bexhill-on-Sea and takes in a cacophony of idiosyncratic coastal locales, customs and characters, may be mapped out but very little else is. Embracing absurdity, a degree of chaos and even personal injury, Kötting creates a joyous, highly-irreverent late twentieth century version of Humphrey Jennings’ Listen to Britain, where difference is not to be feared; rather it provides the route to common ground.

Andrew is a great stylist and humourist, which makes the film very accessible and entertaining despite it’s restless experimentation and disregard for documentary conventions. The film was shot on Super 8 and other lo-fi formats and incorporating sound-samples and archive footage.

Andrew still continues to make films and art with his daughter Eden in 2023.

Do not miss this extremely rare screening at pay as you can prices!
