It’s our 2nd annual Ghost Stories for Christmas evening here at the Star & Shadow as part of our TV on the Big Screen events! We’re giving you three more spine-chilling tales from the BBC Archive:

The Stalls of Barchester
Stigma &
The Dead Room

After our fantastic spooky night of the BBC shorts last year, we’re giving you the chance to see another three of the haunting classics this year. From both eras of the iconic television tradition.

We start with the first ever Ghost Story from 1971 based on the story by MR James - The Stalls of Barchester. An ambitious cleric murders an aged Archdeacon at Barchester Cathedral. However, he is soon stalked by a sinister black cat and by a hooded figure, both of whom seem to be embodiments of carvings on the cathedral's choir stalls.

We jump forward 6 years to 1977s Stigma – the only story to have a female lead character. Katharine and Peter move into a remote country house in the middle of a stone circle workmen disturb an ancient menhir, unleashing a supernatural evil force causing Katherine to bleed uncontrollably, despite having no wounds.

And we close our evening with a story from the modern era of tales 2018’s The Dead Room - about a long-running radio horror series and its veteran presenter Aubrey Judd who discovers that all is not quiet in the eerie radio studio and that elements of his own past are not as dead and buried as he perhaps hoped.
