A unique mix of French New Wave and Hollywood Musical, sherbert colours and dazzling song and dance. Unusually - a musical about the regret of lost love, starring real life siblings Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac as twin sisters who want to find romance and leave their small seaside town of Rochefort. Dorléac tragically died soon after the film was made, infusing it with added poignancy.

They are joined by George Chakiris (Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in West Side Story) and the indomitable Gene Kelly. With an extravagant score from Michel Legrand, and a cameo from Agnes Varda this film both subverts and celebrates the Hollywood musical.
