Cult-classic 1980s fantasy adventure from the legendary Jim Henson and Frank Oz. Join Gelflings Jen and Kira (and Fizzgig, their ‘friendly monster’ sidekick!) as they fight to save the world from the evil Skeksis. Fusing the family-friendly fun of the Muppets with the dark weirdness of Grimms’ fairy tales, The Dark Crystal paved the way for Henson’s Labyrinth, and Oz’s work on Star Wars. Advertised as the ‘first ever film with no human actors’, the film broke new ground in animatronics, crafting a fully-realised world using puppets and props built to scale. Decades later, The Dark Crystal still captivates children and adults alike, inspiring a recent Netflix series and even an adaptation for ballet. “The Dark Crystal, besides being a dazzling technological and artistic achievement by a band of talented artists and performers, presents a dark side of Muppet creators Jim Henson and Frank Oz that could teach a lesson in morality to youngsters at the same time it is entertaining their parents.” (Variety, 1982)
