Shahnameh

told by Xanthe Gresham

Delving deep into the rich culture and epic mythology of Persia, Xanthe Gresham performs sections of The Shahnameh – the Book of Kings. Enter a world of romance, lust, tragedy and war – where fathers and sons may be strangers in battle; selfish Kings move others like chess pieces across the board for their own amusement; beauty can be a gift and a curse, and femme fatales may condemn young men to journey through fire.

Created through commissions from The British Musuem, The Smithsonian, Magic of Persia and Iran Heritage, Xanthe Gresham has been performing tales from the Shahnameh for the past decade, extracting, adapting and recreating this Iranian national epic for contemporary audiences.
