English Vinglish is the story of a woman who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. It is a light-hearted yet touching and transformational journey of Shashi where circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language, and teach the world a lesson. The film captures her struggles in becoming a self-assured and confident woman in the city of New York.

The film poetically and dramatically showcases the struggles of non-English speakers across the world and how not knowing a language becomes a person's identity.
