James Dean  Natalie Wood 

Highlighted by great performances from Dean and Wood (both nominated for academy awards) 'Rebel' is the only film for which Dean received top billing.  Superbly crafted by Nick Ray the script shifts the focus on anti social behaviour from the city slums to the suburbs, depicting the Teenage kickback against the American Dream.  Fully charged with melodramatic intensity, 'Rebel' also has a homoerotic subplot.
