Two unforgettable performances from Katharine Hepburn in one special double bill, showcasing the range and brilliance of one of classic Hollywood’s greatest stars.
First up is Howard Hawks’ screwball masterpiece BRINGING UP BABY (1938), starring Katharine Hepburn alongside Cary Grant. Grant plays a mild mannered palaeontologist whose carefully ordered life is thrown into complete chaos after meeting Hepburn’s fearless and eccentric heiress Susan Vance. Featuring a missing dinosaur bone, a tame leopard named Baby and relentless comic misunderstandings, the film remains one of the defining comedies of Hollywood’s golden age.
Following that is John Huston’s THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951), with Hepburn starring opposite Humphrey Bogart in one of cinema’s great adventure romances. Set during the First World War, the film follows prim missionary Rose Sayer and rough riverboat captain Charlie Allnut as they journey through dangerous East African waters aboard a battered steam boat. As tensions rise and survival becomes uncertain, an unlikely relationship begins to form between them.
From rapid fire screwball comedy to sweeping adventure, this double bill celebrates Katharine Hepburn’s extraordinary screen presence across two very different but equally iconic films.
