The second feature film from Payal Kapadia (A Night of Knowing Nothing) is a brilliant drama tracing the intersecting lives of three women in Mumbai.

Prabha, Anu and Parvaty are hospital workers who have each arrived to the city from small towns, navigating its charms and stresses. Anu is in a scandalous but passionate secret relationship with her Muslim boyfriend, while Prabha is in a loveless arranged marriage with a man who moved to Germany immediately after the wedding. Meanwhile, Parvaty is facing eviction because her late husband failed to leave her the paperwork that would give her the right to remain in their apartment. The three travel together to Parvaty's home town on the Keralan coast, bringing a moment of relief from city life and the space for deeper insight into their struggles, dreams, and the mutual support offered by their friendship.
