Join Powtes and friends as we celebrate the launch of our debut album ‘Destroying a Living’. An evening of music from Newcastle’s weird-, alt-, post-, and experimental-folk scene. Expect rousing tunes and heart-stirring ballads via folk-adjacent musics served four different ways.

Powtes
Powtes are a six piece alt-folk collective drawing together musicians from Newcastle’s weird-folk and experimental music scene. They make sensitive and quietly intense music that takes inspiration from the traditional musics of these islands that we now call the UK. Expect drones of an acoustic nature.
“Bleak, beautiful and deeply human, Powtes’ music feels rooted in folk tradition while refusing to remain bound by it. Beneath the album’s haunting textures and improvised arrangements lies a simple but defiant idea: another world is possible.”- Ne Volume

Nev Clay
A certified true legend of Newcastle’s alt-folk scene, Nev Clay is “the singer-songwriter’s singer-songwriter”. Beauty, humour, and earnest tunefulness are his stock in trade, with many an entertaining anecdote sprinkled between.
“Whether speaking or singing, Nev draws you into his world, a world where everything matters and nothing is precious except the beautifully mundane details of everyday life.”- Klof Mag

Jasmine Padgett Family Band
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist-experimentalist Jasmine Padgett is joined by other local luminaries on the fiddle, harmonium and trumpet to deliver carefully balanced tunes that play with trad folk but stray into less familiar territory.
“…[T]apping the same cosmic source as free folk elders like Pelt and the Jewelled Antler lot – heads who were making music before Padgett was born – but it’s got its own personality and feels genuine and organic as you like. Strong tip!” - The Quietus

Worms
Everyone’s favourite new band, Worms delight with heart-felt songs that leave room for tuneful improvisation around freewheeling but intricate songwriting. Balm for the soul, rung out of a wide variety of instruments.
