Los Olvidados Luis Bunuel (1950; Mex; 12) Alfonso Mejia, Stella Inda
Twenty years after Luis Bunuel errupted into an outraged film world with L’Age d’Or and Un Chien Andalou his scandalous surrealist masterpieces, Luis Buñuel doubled up with this lacerating portrait of Mexico City’s street kids. Drawing from first-hand accounts, Buñuel follows swaggering hoodlum Jaibo, who escapes from juvenile detention and enlists the wide-eyed Pedro to help find the grass who put him there.
With a realist setting Bunuel’s film bares his trademark stamp of surrealism and cruelty. Best Director Cannes 1951.
