Dr. Cargrave receives a letter from his former love who is now married to Baron Sardonicus. The letter urgently requests his medical expertise to treat her husband's mysterious ailment. Concerned for Maude's well-being, Dr. Cargrave travels to Castle Sardonicus, where he discovers the Baron's horrifying secret.
